Dressing prophetically

We challenged our followers to dress prophetically today. But what does it mean to dress prophetically you might ask? Well let’s start at the beginning...

We read in Genesis 3 how Adam and Eve sinned and suddenly realized that they were naked. They took fig leaves and covered themselves with it and hid from God. God comes through the garden looking for them, knowing fully well what they did and where they were. Shamefully Adam and Eve comes out and admits what they did. We all know the story well. But here is something you might not have realized. Before Adam and Eve was banished from the garden, God took skin and made them clothes. God, being a loving Father, didn’t leave them naked with itchy fig leaves as covering, but made clothes for them.

What Adam and Eve wore mattered because the skin they were wearing was a symbol of covering their guilt and shame. Just like putting on the armour of God, we can put clothes on our bodies whilst declaring God’s goodness and favour over us.

Let’s just look at colours for instance. Every colour has prophetic meaning. Blue is the colour of peace and justice. Dark red is die colour of wine and communion. Ruby red stands for the blood of Jesus shed for our forgiveness, healing, deliverance and salvation. Pink represents new birth. Purple stands for royalty, power and authority. Yellow is for grace and green stands for fruitful intimacy with Jesus.

Next time you stand in front of your wardrobe, pray and ask God what is He saying about you today. The shirt with flowers on might represent the lilies of the field that God looks after (Matthew 6:28-29). The headband around your head could represent a crown of righteousness that God bestows on you (2 Timothy 4:8). The belt around your waist, a reminder of the truth that Jesus died for you (Ephesians 6:14). God is in the details! He made the whole universe so intricately with so much detail, why wouldn’t he be in the details of your clothes.

Enjoy spending time with the Lord, unlocking what He is saying to you through your clothes.
